Rossaveel (Ros a' Mhíl) is a harbour on the Connemara coast west of Galway city. It is separate from Galway city harbour, and it is the port listed for year-round ferries to the islands.

Aran Island Ferries lists year-round sailings from Rossaveel to Inis Mór, and the islands' visitor site lists year-round sailings from Rossaveel to Inis Meáin too. If you are staying in Connemara, or travelling outside the summer season, Rossaveel is often the most practical departure point.

Where Rossaveel is, and why it matters
Rossaveel lies in the Irish-speaking Connemara coast, roughly an hour's drive from Galway city according to Aran Island Ferries. That makes it convenient from Spiddal, Carraroe and other Connemara villages, but a real journey from the city. Ferry or flight from Connemara
Close to Rossaveel is Connemara Regional Airport at Inverin, from which the islands' visitor site lists year-round flights, subject to weather. A flight is a short hop and may suit anyone worried about sea conditions, but it is a separate service from the ferry. Check that a tour's transport matches what you expect.
Which island?
From Rossaveel, sailings are listed to more than one island. Inis Mór is the largest, with Dún Aonghasa. Inis Meáin and Inis Oírr are smaller, each with its own villages, walks and beaches. Tours typically focus on one island per day, so confirm which one.
What to check before booking

- Which island, and time ashore.
